The primary objective of the SC INBRE Outreach Core is to ensure the inclusion of non-network institutions in the SC INBRE Program and provide opportunities for non-network institutions to participate in mentored research activities.
Postdoctoral Academic Career Development Program
In early 2007, the INBRE Outreach Core offered an opportunity for
postdoctoral researchers to acquire a substantial mentored teaching experience
in conjunction with their primary training in scientific research. The
underlying hypothesis for this program is that a skilled teacher is a more
efficient and productive researcher. Goals of the PACD program include
improvement of teaching skills and research achievements to expand career
opportunities and competitiveness, while simultaneously serving as a role model
for students and promoting curricular development in science and mathematics
departments at Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs) in South Carolina.
This program is currently in progress. Awards for this program are not currently available.
INBRE Summer Undergraduate Research Program
The INBRE Outreach Core offered a program for undergraduate students
from institutions not currently in the INBRE network to participate in research
projects to be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina, Clemson
University, and the University of South Carolina in support of the regenerative
medicine/bioengineering theme.
This summer program was an opportunity for undergraduates at PUIs to learn about programs at the graduate degree granting institutions with Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering programs.
