** Deadline for submission - June 1, 2012 **
The goal of the SC INBRE Bioinformatics Pilot Project Program is to stimulate interest in the application of genomics and bioinformatics methods to undergraduate and graduate student research throughout the INBRE and South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research Institute (SCTR) networks. Funded projects will generate preliminary data for presentations, publications and grant proposals by faculty and their students.
If at all possible, projects should propose to work with one of the following INBRE-supported facilities with resources necessary to complete the research. These facilities include:
However, if the technical services required by the project cannot be provided by any of the listed facilities, or the project is based upon existing collaborations that already involve the use of other resources, it is acceptable to use other service providers.
For additional information about the facility resources, contact the directors listed above. Other facilities in the state or the services of commercial facilities may also be used, if the services required by the project are not provided by the facilities listed above.
Projects will also benefit from the computational and data storage resources of SC INBRE’s Bioinformatics Core, Dr. Homayoun Valafar, Director (homayoun@cec.sc.edu, 803-777-2404)
Proposals are being accepted from institutions of higher education in the SC INBRE network. The SC INBRE network is comprised of Claflin University, Clemson University, the College of Charleston, Francis Marion University, Furman University, the Medical University of South Carolina, South Carolina State University, the University of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina Beaufort and Winthrop University. Proposals are also encouraged from affiliated members of SCTR and interested students and faculty at primarily undergraduate institutions (PUI) across the state.
Projects must be implemented by faculty and student teams. Teams should
consist of at least one undergraduate or graduate student, and at least one
faculty member. Individuals may only be involved in a single proposal per
funding period. The proposal should identify a faculty member to serve as
the Principal Investigator (PI). Any other personnel (faculty or students)
should be listed as Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PI).
Please see the solicitation for more specific information, proposal
guidelines, and submission processes.
